Predicting the MLB Playoffs

MLB spreads aren’t the only way to think about betting on baseball, especially as we start to get into the summer months. Playoff races are heating up all throughout the league, and it’s time to start making predictions about how the postseason will look.

Predicting the MLB Playoffs

MLB lines for futures betting will look a bit different this year as MLB has agreed to a new playoff format. Six teams from each league will now reach the postseason, and there will be more playoff games to find MLB odds to bet on.

This also means that two teams from each league are going to get a bye in the first round, and the Wild Card rounds will now be played best-of-three. The better teams should have a bigger postseason advantage, but there will still be plenty of work to be done.

Here are some predictions as to how the MLB Playoffs will shake out

American League

Here is how the MLB Playoff seeds will shake out in the American League:

  1. New York Yankees (AL East champ)
  2. Houston Astros (AL West Champ)
  3. Chicago White Sox (AL Central Champ)
  4. Toronto Blue Jays (WC1)
  5. Tampa Bay Rays (WC2)
  6. Minnesota Twins (WC3)

If the seeds shake out this way then the White Sox will play division rival Minnesota in one matchup and the Blue Jays and Rays will meet up in the other series. Both of these series would be fun to watch, and it will be the White Sox and Blue Jays moving on.

The divisional round is when things really start to get fun and it will be the Yankees-Blue Jays in one series, and the White Sox-Astros in the other. These four teams are all good enough to win the World Series, but only two of them can advance.

The Yankees are going to eliminate the Blue Jays as they simply have a much better pitching staff. Look for the White Sox to get revenge on the Astros as they also have too many dominant starting pitchers in that rotation.

An ALCS matchup between the Yankees and White Sox is what many predicted in the preseason as both teams are loaded with talent. That CHicago pitching staff is hard to ignore, but ultimately the Yankees will power their way to a pennant.

National League

The NL playoff predictions are a bit harder to make as there isn’t a clear group of dominant teams. Here is a prediction on the playoff seeding:

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West Champ)
  2. Milwaukee Brewers (NL Central Champ)
  3. Atlanta Braves (NL East Champ)
  4. San Diego Padres (WC1)
  5. New York Mets (WC2)
  6. St. Louis Cardinals (WC3)

There are some tight playoff races in the National League, and these seeds could easily change. Based on the current projections it would be the Braves-Cardinals in one series, and the Padres-Mets in the second series.

Atlanta and St. Louis are similar teams, but the Braves have a better starting rotation that will allow them to advance. San Diego and New York will be a terrific battle, but you don’t want to mess with that Mets pitching staff.

The Divisional Series matchups in the NL will have the Dodgers facing the Mets, and the Brewers taking on the Braves. Many would be predicting another Braves-Dodgers showdown in the NLCS, but that won’t happen this year.

Atlanta will get the job done and advance to the NLCS, but they will be facing the Mets. These two hated rivals will meet up for the pennant, and Atlanta will fall short in winning a second straight NLCS.

World Series

Unless you live in the state of New York then you are not going to like the World Series matchup set to take place in 2022. It will be the Yankees and the Mets squaring off in the final series of the year, and this will actually be a great matchup to watch.

The Yankees will try and slug their way to a World Series title, and they certainly have the lineup to do it. The Mets don’t have a lineup that can do a ton of damage, but they don’t have to with that pitching staff.

Jacob DeGrom and Max Scherzer are simply too good and they will lead the Mets to a World Series title.
